How I Made an Extra £500 and Reached My Savings Goal

A few weeks ago I set myself a challenge to make an extra £500 so I could put it towards redecorating my house. I didn’t give myself a time limit but the faster I reached my goal the better. It only took me just over a month and I’m so happy with that, I want to share with you how I made the extra money.

I talk a lot about different side hustles I do. Last month I hustled hard to make as much extra money as I could. The main three areas that made me the most money in this challenge were;

Elections Poll Clark

Every year I am a poll clerk for the elections. It is a long day, having to be there for 16 hours  from 6am until 10pm but I enjoy it and it is really easy money. For the whole day I got paid around £150 after tax.

Decluttering

I’ve had a good sort out at home. I have cleared out a whole room that was full of junk and it is now my sons bedroom. He was sharing with my daughter but decided it was time to give them their own rooms. This gave me a good reason to start decluttering. I had enough stuff to be able to do a bootsale. I also sold quite a few things on a local facebook selling site. The main things I sold were kids clothes and toys.  If you have any of these laying around and your kids haven’t played with them for so long, you can easily make a few extra pounds by selling them on to someone else who will make good use of them.

Matched Betting

I have always enjoyed matched betting and is definitely a profitable side hustle. I haven’t been doing as much lately as I have in the past but I still made around £300 in about 5 weeks so I’m happy with that. With matched betting, the more time you can put in then the more money you will make. I could easily double my profits if I had the time but with a 2 and 3 year old, I just squeeze in about 20 minutes a day.

If you are thinking of giving this a try, sign up for a free trial at Profit Accumulator and see how you get on. From the free trial you can make around £45, so even if you decide it isn’t for you, you still make a nice profit. Also take a read of my top tips to make money with matched betting to help get you started.

I also did some mystery shopping assignments, which I made a few pounds from but also got a few free lunches too. That’s one of the main reason I enjoy mystery shopping so much, free food and less cooking!
