Reading With Toddlers – What We’ve Enjoyed This Week

When I was a kid, I loved reading. I always had my head in a book and even now I still enjoy it. I want to pass the love of books on to my children so reading is a big thing for us. Already at just 3 years and 18 months, they both love a book. Quite often, they will be so quiet that I’m thinking they are up to something, but when I check on them they are both looking at books.

Every night we read two or three stories. We are lucky to have so many to choose from so we are not always reading the same few books.

Some of the books we have been reading this week, and both the kids love them are:

The TIckle Book by Ian Whybrow and Axel Scheffler – The kids absolutely love this book and would both happily read it every day. I actually really enjoy this one too, its good fun and watching both my kids get the giggles is brilliant. Of course I play the part of the Ticklemonster and they know when the tickle is coming.

Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler – this is another book that makes the kids laugh! Its such a cute book too. I really enjoy reading the Julia Donaldson books, we have a few and they are all really good.

One Ted Falls Out of Bed by Julia Donaldson and Anna Curry – This is another one by Julia Donaldson (which I hadn’t even realised until now!) I like the books which are rhyming. This one is just that and its a good counting book which is good for the kids to help them learn their numbers.

Have You Seen my Potty by Mary McQuillan – I bought this book when my daughter started potty training. I thought it would be good to help encourage her to sit on the potty. She loved the book then and now they both love it. I will read this one to them a bit more often now as will start potty training my son soon.
